S.A.N.A stands for SABAH NURSES ASSOCIATION, which was founded by a former Principal Nursing Tutor, Mr. Francis Yong, who is now retired. It was established in 1978 to promote cooperation and unite all categories of nurses throughout the Sabah State under one association. Officially registered with the REGISTRAR OF SOCIETY (R.O.S) on 17, July 1978. SANA has grown tremendously to include other nurses from private hospitals and clinics. It comprising 80% of nurses in the government and non-government.SANA regional office is situated temporarily at a rented office at Taman Fortuna Commercial Centre, Lot 2, 2nd Floor. Jalan Penampang , Kota Kinabalu. We are now embarking on our 1st Five Year Plan to enable our association to strive for excellence in service for nurses and community. Our function is motivated by our mission “SANA Striving For Excellence” by enhancing capabilities through collaborative efforts incorporating programmed initiatives, networks, partnership and information services, thereby contributing to development of world class association.
The availability of information and the growth of science have led to significant improvements in health outcomes throughout the world. However differences in outcomes, health inequalities and poorly performing health services continue to present a real challenge to all nurses. Half of the world’s deaths could be prevented with simple cost effective interventions but as the World Health Organization (WHO
2004) acknowledges not enough is known about how to make these more widely available to the people who need them.
